If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my do my masking ritual in my Stories during the Oscars. I got so many questions on what I was doing and why, so here I will expand on the products used in the routine and why it’s packed with Vitamin C.
WHY VITAMIN C?
In short it’s an antioxidant that plays a big role in collagen synthesis (you know, collagen, that bouncy elastic fiber that keeps us looking young). Studies have also show that it can prevent and treat photo damage, which I honestly can’t afford any more of. My skin is very prone to pigmentation and over the past year I’ve really been working my tail off to get rid of it, so welcoming any of it back is a big NO GO.
I’ve curated this group of products for their efficacy and ability to work well with my skin, read on to learn more about each.
This dry mask is made of sustainably farmed ingredients like camu camu, acerola berry, and rosehip fruit – all for their high amounts of vitamins A, C, and E used to improve signs of sun damage, reduce the look of hyperpigmentation over time, and visibly restore collagen and firmness. It’s fun to use, you steep it in your mask bowl until it becomes thick which activates the vitamins (which also means they don’t oxidize or go bad in dry form) and they are extremely potent on the skin.
I use 2-3x a week as my face will allow and then spot treat on the other days my face needs a break. This is a great way to make headway on pigmentation and scarring, but you’ll still need to give it 6-8 weeks for results. However, I’ve been pleased with the fading of my spots and brightened appearance.
I’m such a believer in toners to prep your face for a routine full of products! This delightful hydrating serum and toner in one carries a blend of botanicals to moisturize and balance dry skin. It has some great humectant properties in the form of sea kelp, which is a rich mineral filled moisturizer, that holds water to the skin. Blended with nourishing oils of rose-hip, seaberry and squalene create a protective layer to repair the skin while imparting a healthy glow.
I spritz this on after the mask before the rest of the routine, or first thing every morning.
I love this lightweight serum, it soaks in easily and feels really smooth, making it great to put on in the morning to help protect the skin. I also use it at night mixed with HOLI(C) for an added boost of Vitamin goodness! All that aside it’s great for hydration and works to brighten and even skin tone, combat damage, and up skin’s firmness.
I usually alternate this one with Fitglow Vita Active Serum, it just depends which is on hand and what your price range is, but they both work really well and feel great on the skin (and under makeup).
To me, this is the most brilliant creation! Agent Nateur’s holi(c) refining face vitamins can be mixed directly with you moisturizer, serum, or SPF to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth, brighten, and tighten your complexion. While I do blend it with a Vitamin C serum (because more is more, right!), you could just add it to products you already have. Often I opt to blend with In Fiore’s Complexe de Fleur (my HOLY GRAIL product!) Holi(c) is one product that every time I use it I notice texture improvements and my skin seems to glow like “I always sleep 12 hours and drink 12 gallons of water!”
This crazy, luxe oil is an intensive final step in the routine to lock in the goodness and give your skin illuminating power for a healthy and youthful complexion. It features the most advanced form of lipid-soluble, deeply penetrating Vitamin C to stimulate collagen synthesis, boost radiance, minimize melanin production and brighten the skin. Along with it’s other power house ingredients you’ll have soft, bouncy, glowy skin upon waking!
I’m not quite sure how to sum it up, but I ADORE THIS STUFF. Not convinced, check out its 5 star reviews!
My best advice when trying to conquer hyper pigmentation and sun damage is to hang in there. NOTHING is a quick fix unless you can afford the best laser treatments, and even then it’s no guarantee. There are various types of hyper pigmentation, not one size fits all, so keep trying until you find what works for you, as I did above. Skin takes time to heal and renew, so you have to give it a chance (at least 8 weeks).
Also, use SUNSCREEN. I know, I know, I sound like a broken record, but I am here to tell you first-hand that if you are not protecting your skin, any headway you make will be immediately dissolved. Yes, this means when it’s cloudy. Yes, it means if you sit in an office all day. YES TO THE YES if you are outside AND you have to reapply (here’s what I use to solve that!)
