The terms “facial oil” and “summer” may sound like a disconnect in your mind, especially if you live in a sweltering or humid climate, but we’re here to tell you that advantages of facial oil still prove themselves no matter what the season! Even if your skin is producing more oil in the summer, applying facial oils can actually balance the sebum production (similar to the theory in our Meltproof Makeup Post). It also continues to improve the skin’s barrier function, which is essential for protecting it from the elements and keeping it strong enough to retain proper hydration – which we all know sun, swim and sunscreen can wreak havoc on.
Using facial oils during the day is as easy as adding a few drops to your finger tips and pressing on a few minutes before applying makeup. If you’re new to facial oils and aren’t ready to take the full on plunge, adding a drop or two to your daily moisturizer will still provided the added benefits while allowing your skin to adjust to the product. Just don’t mix it with your SPF, we don’t want to dilute the protection, so layer the sunscreen on top once everything has soaked in your skin. Have dry skin? Continue to use the heavy hitting oils at night to infuse skin with moisture while nourishing and rejuvenating.
What to look for?
Look for oils like jojoba, apricot, grapeseed, sesame, or rosehip. Remember, while coconut oil may solve 99 of our problems, its still clogging, so skip using it straight when it comes to your face.
Here are the oils we love for warmer weather (and are great lighter oils no matter the weather!)
